Moraea vegeta is a short statured species from the southwestern Cape of Southern Africa where it is found growing on damp clay or granite slopes and flats. The flowers are buff to dull purple-brown coloured and are rather short lived, but many flowers are produced in succession which gives it a long flowering period.
